As a craftsman, I, Rathindra Nath Mallick, am eager to share my journey with all of you. The desire to craft something truly exceptional and unique has always been a driving force for me. My inaugural creation came to life in a lighthearted manner, as I ventured into crafting something unique for the very first time.
From the Director’s Desk
I took my first plunge into crafting by transforming a small piece of coconut shell into a playful piggy bank, born from the imagination of my tender years. This marked the beginning of my quest to beautify the world while championing eco-friendly practices with recyclable natural waste.
Since then, my craft repertoire has expanded to include diverse items such as owls, peacocks, flower vases, tribal masks, and everyday household essentials. With over 500 imaginative creations to date, I proudly secured “District Awards for Handicrafts” four times (2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03, 2005-06), “State Awards for Handicrafts” twice (2005-06, 2010-11), and the prestigious “National Award for Handicrafts” in 2012.
Notably, I’ve pioneered a unique line of ornaments crafted from coconut shells adorned with 22k Gold inlay, celebrated for their eco-friendly and economical nature. The “Limca Book of Records” and “India Book of Records” recognize me as a “Pioneer” and “National Record” holder in this field, featuring my achievements in their 2013 edition.
Going forward, my mission is to contribute to societal welfare, especially for those who are underprivileged and pursuing creative pursuits. I’ve conducted workshops in various correctional homes, including Tihar, and I’m eager to extend my efforts even further. This noble endeavor received a nod of encouragement from the late President Pranab Mukherjee when he urged me, upon receiving an award, to focus on uplifting society through my work.

Our team member, Mr. Anikesh, acquired this skill under the guidance of Mr. Mallick. Through meticulous training, he has evolved into one of the most skilled members of Rathi’s team, now successfully earning a decent livelihood.

Having previously worked in a steel plant, Mr. Tamal Rakshit generously shared his valuable experience with us. He continues to lend his expertise, providing ongoing guidance and assistance to ensure our work is executed seamlessly.
